Batteries offer a wide range of benefits to homeowners, they can reduce grid dependency, earn money by taking advantage of rate arbitration, or traditional use for backup during grid outages. Sizing the correct battery is of paramount importance to manage costs and reap potential benefits. However, few homeowners would be willing to install large battery systems to reduce their grid dependence entirely and future-proof their homes for additional electrical appliances.

Enphase battery sizing limitations

Enphase battery systems offer flexible battery configurations to homeowners based on their energy needs. However, the maximum capacity is limited to the breaker capacity of IQ combiner or IQ system controller where the battery system is connected. This is to offer electrical safety and confide to the maximum OCPD rating. The limitation is 8 batteries (40kWh) for IQ battery 5P and 4 batteries (40kWh) for IQ battery 10C.

Enphase IQ battery oversubscription

The Enphase Power Control feature, IQ Battery over-subscription mode, enables up to twice as many batteries per site compared to systems without the Power Control System enabled. One can size up to 80kWh of batteries of both 5P and 10C generations. How to configure IQ battery oversubscription

Once you designed an IQ battery system that is Enphase 3rd generation 5P or higher, Solargraf provides an additional option to users for configuring battery oversubscription

Select the right Combiner/System controller hardware used for installing the battery system. Enter the right breaker rating used by the hardware. Solargraf will distribute the batteries among the breakers and apply oversizing PCS for applicable configurations
