Wall Elevation Canvas in Solargraf
Published on 27 Feb 2026
Introducing the Wall Elevation Canvas in Solargraf
Permit requirements continue to require greater clarity, especially for battery projects where AHJs need to see how wall-mounted equipment will be installed.
In real-world installations, walls are rarely simple. Equipment may need to be stacked. Space may be limited. Windows or doors can restrict placement. Previously, adjusting wall elevations inside Solargraf required exporting the plan set, editing it externally, and re-uploading the final version.
The Wall Elevation Canvas allows wall layouts to be designed, adjusted, and finalized directly within the Permit workflow before generating the plan set.
Designed for real-world installations
The following sections outline the functionality available within the wall elevation canvas.
Toggle control for permit sets
Not every AHJ requires a wall elevation sheet. A toggle allows you to control whether the wall elevation page is included in the final permit package.
Turn ON to include the elevation page in the plan set.
Turn OFF to exclude it when not required.
This ensures the permit submission aligns with local jurisdiction requirements.
Flexible component placement
The component library allows you to add and position common wall-mounted equipment directly onto the canvas, including:
- Batteries
- Disconnects
- Combiner boxes
- System controllers and gateways
- Main service panels
- Utility meters
- Conduits
Components can be searched, selected, and placed precisely. They may be stacked vertically, spaced apart, or positioned relative to other equipment to reflect the intended installation layout.
Multi-wall support
If all equipment cannot fit on a single wall, multiple wall sections can be created within the same elevation view.
- Add additional walls
- Name each wall if needed
- Distribute equipment independently across each wall
This is useful when components must be separated due to layout or space constraints.
Obstruction modelling
Walls may include obstructions such as windows, doors, or other barriers.
You can:
- Add obstruction zones directly onto the wall
- Resize them to match actual dimensions
- Position equipment around them accordingly
This improves alignment between the wall elevation and site conditions.
Built-in layout safeguards
The canvas prevents component overlap to maintain clear and compliant drawings.
If a component is placed over another, the system provides an alert. This helps maintain appropriate spacing and reduces the likelihood of permit revisions.
Measurement visibility controls
Wall elevations display dimensions by default to indicate spacing and height.
You can:
- Show or hide measurements
- Remove individual dimension markers by selecting and deleting them
This allows the drawing to be adjusted based on jurisdictional requirements.
Easy navigation and reset
- Pan using trackpad gestures (two-finger movement)
- Zoom in and out for precise placement
- Use Fit to Screen to re-center the layout
- Reset to the default arrangement at any time
These controls allow layout adjustments while maintaining consistency in the final output.
Elevation notes for permit documentation
Dedicated elevation notes can be added and will appear in the final plan set.
These notes are separate from on-canvas labels and are intended specifically for permit documentation.
